Toshiba Intros Unified Messaging Solution for SMBs

Toshiba has introduced a new “entry level” unified messaging system geared for SMBs that allows companies to get their “feet wet” with unified communications at a more affordable price.

Toshiba’s new Strata Messaging solution is compatible with its Strata CIX family of IP business communications systems, including the CIX40, CIX100, CIX200, CIX670 and CIX1200. The system delivers advanced UC functionality and features found on much more expensive enterprise systems.
Strata Messaging supports 2 to 8 ports of voice mail, up to 400 mailboxes, and has 300 hours of storage. The base system package offers two voice mail ports and 10 seats of unified messaging. Additional ports and unified messaging seats can be purchased and licensed through Authorized Toshiba Dealers.
The software resides on an external Linux-based appliance equipped with internal components designed for reliability. Because it is an external device, it does not use a full card slot in the system; rather, it uses only a portion of a GIPU or MIPU IP card, leaving the remaining ports free for other applications.
“In the past, small to medium businesses had to purchase expensive equipment for unified messaging features,” said Ron Hunsaker, senior product manager for Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division, in a release. “Now with Strata Messaging, Toshiba’s SMB customers have an affordable and reliable unified messaging solution designed to work with their Toshiba VoIP systems.”

Last month, Toshiba America Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems Division announced that MM Internet’s SIP trunking service is now certified interoperable with Toshiba’s family of Strata CIX IP business communication systems.
