Unified communications (UC) and cloud platform provider FlexITy Solutions has expanded operations into western Canada. The company has announced the activation of a new multi-million-dollar data center in Manitoba, which will serve the western part of the country and act as a cloud-based hosting and UC operations center.
The new facility is unique to western Canada in that it’s one of only a handful of certified UC facilities in the country. The Winnipeg location will offer sales and service delivery to northern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Last year the city recently chose FlexITY to overhaul its legacy telephony infrastructure and replace it with the FlexTEL UC platform. The upgrade has greatly expanded communication capabilities within the city of Winnipeg and is expected to reap major savings throughout the life of the agreement.
The new data center is expected to hire 20 new engineering and management employees initially and will also generate an anticipated $4.5 million in provincial and federal tax revenue. The facility is also delivering hosted solution support to the company’s customers in eastern Canada. FlexITy plans to expand the center in several phases to coincide with business plan expansion.
"This state-of-the-art facility enables us to deliver competitive communication services for western Canadian businesses and public sector organizations," said FlexITy CEO Peter Stavropoulos. "We have a long term commitment and vision for the western Canadian market. Our success in western Canada is strategic to our growth as an organization."
He added that the company expects to see five-fold growth in its business over the next five years as a result of the new data center. In turn, the company will increase its local workforce as an investment in the city and province. FlexITy chose Winnipeg because of Manitoba’s stable and secure economy, making it an ideal location for delivering cloud-based services. The city also has accessibility to western Canada as well as central U.S. markets.
Winnipeg also boasts skilled technology delivery and management workers, while its central location helps FlexITy meet the stringent network reliability and redundancy needs of its customers.
