Let me offer my congratulations to Cisco, for its receiving of the Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) 2012 Best Practices Award for Market Share Leadership. This award is given to the company with the highest market share within its industry as a symbol of its leadership, whether it is in revenue or units, and Cisco (News - Alert) has certainly earned it.

In 2011, Cisco held over 22 percent of the market revenue for enterprise communications platforms, and was responsible for selling and shipping a large percentage of IP line licenses, IP desktop phones, and desktop client units. With its expansive portfolio of communications solutions and willingness to not only keep up with the curve, but stay ahead of it, it’s no wonder Cisco is a name virtually synonymous with IP Telephony and Unified Communications (News - Alert).

Not only is Cisco at the top of the market, but it has one of the broadest portfolios of communications solutions. That allows it to serve as a single stop shop for various unified communications and collaboration solutions, with hardware, software, tools, and applications available, all of which are interoperable with each other and many third-party products. It’s not easy to find a communications suite that doesn’t use something from Cisco these days, and for a good reason.

“Cisco Systems has clearly earned the market share leadership position in the Enterprise Media Gateway (News - Alert) market by leveraging the best elements of its entire product portfolio to deliver a comprehensive unified communications offering to its enterprise customers,” stated the announcement from Frost & Sullivan. “By utilizing its most popular routing line as the base hardware and assuring compatibility with its unified communications and collaboration platforms, Cisco capitalizes on up-sell opportunities while giving enterprise customers an opportunity to make media gateways a strategic component of their UC infrastructure.”

This isn’t the first time Frost & Sullivan has recognized Cisco, and I doubt it will be the last. Cisco has consistently made itself an industry leader, and it has the numbers to show for it.
