CME Group stated that its newly released CME Direct Messenger is an instant messaging platform for the energy trading community. The messenger is stated to be a part of CME Direct, a technology that offers side-by-side trading of exchange listed and over-the-counter markets.

CME Group explained that the CME Direct Messenger is based on instant messaging software developed by Pivot Inc., which was recently bought by CME Group.

Pivot explained that the instant messaging software it developed can drive profitability for thousands of customers in hundreds of buy and sell-side trading rooms. It can be used to manage instant message workflow, extract and organize relevant market information and disseminate it efficiently, even if the information is embedded in casual instant message conversations. The software offers improved workflow, transparency and information, which in turn results in better trading decisions.

CME Direct Messenger was built on Pivot’s messaging platform in order to offer sophisticated instant messaging, content parsing and broadcast technologies using which traders in the energy and equity markets can distribute and negotiate Request-for-Quotes, block orders, complex options and other order types.

“Instant messaging has become a critical part of the financial community's price discovery and trading operations. By integrating Pivot's messaging solutions with CME Direct, we will offer our customers an industry-leading messaging software, alongside the first fully automated front-to-back-office platform for trading CME Group's listed and OTC energy products. This is an important addition to our electronic trading offering for energy markets, and it will create new efficiencies and trading opportunities for our clients”, said Michel Everaert of CME Group, in a press release.

Pivot added that CME Direct, now available to customers with its instant messaging technologies integrated into it, can help them seamlessly manage instant messaging workflows and trading listed and OTC derivatives markets.
