Charter Oak Online College Chooses MSP ePlus to Provide Unified Communications

January 05, 2012

Charter Oak State College, a public online college for adults wishing to complete their bachelors' degrees which is based in Connecticut, has selected managed services provider (MSP) ePlus Technology Inc. to provide Cisco Unified Communications (UC) and Managed Services deployment.

ePlus, a subsidiary of ePlus Inc., worked with the college to analyze its objectives and technical requirements and come up with customized solutions to meet its needs. Some of the considerations included internal and external customers, telecommuters and help desk needs.

ePlus is providing pre-sales design, project management, installation and end user training services to the school. The solution features Cisco UC, which is made up of contact center, adaptive security appliances (ASA) and WebEx solutions in addition to a three-year ePlus Managed Services contract for monitoring and managing all UC and security components of the solutions.

In addition to being a Cisco Gold Certified Partner, ePlus is considered a Cisco Master Specializations in Security and Unified Communications, as well as holds a Cisco Managed Services Master Certification. The company also has Cisco Specializations in Advanced Routing and Switching, Advanced Data Center Storage Networking, Advanced Data Center Networking Architecture and Advanced Wireless LAN. ePlus is a Cisco Authorized Unified Meetingplace Partner and holds Cisco ATP designations for Cisco TelePresence Video Master, Video Surveillance and Data Center Unified Computing.

"We chose to work with ePlus on this initiative based on our long-term relationship, ePlus' expertise with both Cisco UC technologies and its established managed services practice, and ePlus' ability to understand our requirements--including integration with our existing network, scalability and high availability, and budgetary needs," said George Claffey, Charter Oak's chief information officer in a statement. "The solution designed and implemented by ePlus will allow us to attract and retain students and provide unparalleled customer service for our growing population of online students."

"We are pleased to extend our working relationship with Charter Oak through this Cisco Unified Communications and ePlus Managed Services engagement," Mark Melvin, chief technology officer of ePlus Technology concluded. "By leveraging our experience and proven track record of delivering Cisco solutions to institutions in the higher education space and the Connecticut procurement contract, we are able to pass many benefits along to the college, including cost savings, improved staff productivity, and an enhanced student experience. With the addition of ePlus Managed Services, the college enjoys proactive monitoring and management of its UC and security infrastructure with minimized risk and downtime - at a predictable cost and without an added burden on its IT staff."
