Edgewater Networks (News - Alert) recently announced the availability of its EdgeProtect family of products which can easily and securely connect remote employees to headquarters based Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) systems.

In a release, Noel & Associates co-founder and managing partner at Ptak Richard Ptak said, “Extending Unified Communications systems to remote offices poses significant challenges for enterprises, including navigating firewalls, ensuring security for UC traffic and implementing tools for the real-time diagnosis of network issues. Edgewater Networks has developed a simple, straightforward solution for addressing the complexities of UC deployments, allowing enterprises to gain the full potential of their UC investment.”

Edgewater Networks EdgeProtect Enterprise Session Border Controllers addresses challenges with connecting centrally based UC systems and IP PBXs with remote employees. Securing the real-time traffic between two locations with firewalls and NAT servers preventing reliable IP-based voice and video communications is difficult to implement. Encryption for all IP-based voice, video, and data connections are authenticated using Transport Layer Security (TLS) to simply connectivity in the EdgeProtect solution. The Edgewater Networks EdgeMarc Enterprise Session Border Controllers terminates multiple TLS connections from remote locations.

This powerful combination provides simplified secure connectivity between existing network infrastructure including firewalls, routers, and switches. The EdgeProtect family contains three platforms. They are the EdgeProtect 5300LF2 platform, the EdgeProtect 4550 platform, the EdgeProtect 4552 platform. They have various concurrent TLS connections as part of the platform. All the models of EdgeProtect solutions have TLS encryption, support for PKI or self-signed certificates, passive call quality monitoring, packet inspection and filtering for tunnel based traffic.

CEO of Edgewater Networks Inc, Mr. David G. Norman said, “Unified Communications holds the promise of increased productivity and reduced costs but only if implemented easily and reliably. The EdgeProtect solution enables enterprise organizations to save money and create a competitive advantage by providing simplified, secure access to their UC systems.”

An IP-based UC system from Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Cisco (News - Alert) Systems, IBM, Interactive Intelligence, Microsoft, Mitel, NEC, ShoreTel, HP Networking, Siemens, Digium, and Aastra is fully interoperable with the EdgeProtect solutions.
