Revolutionary XpandR III Wireless Multimedia Chip Released by DSP Group
The high tech XpandR III is the only system on a chip or SoC in the world that can integrate Wi-Fi and DECT. It supports several features such as audio, video, data and voice, among others, on a highly advanced low-power system. The DSP Group is one of the world leaders in providing wireless chipset solutions for home converged communications and the superlative XpandR III adds to the company’s multimedia chipset solution stack.
The SoC has successfully become an optimal system to achieve cost-efficient telephony, video communication, multimedia applications, and VoIP. The system comes with a preloaded software and hardware kit and helps in reducing BOM or systems bill of maintenance and other developmental efforts. The complete package, XpandR III comes with Wi-Fi and DECT module developers, embedded software packages, an Android based development kit, semiconductors SoC and form-factor reference designs. The user experience is enhanced to a large extent with the system, which runs on a powerful 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 application processor and 300MHz ARM9 co-processor. Value add is a byproduct of the high performing 1.3GHz processor that allows the XpandR to enable apps as well as data or voice connectivity.
In a release, Corporate VP of Marketing and Business Development in the DSP Group, Oz Zimerman said that “The market for affordable, easy-to-use devices that harness the power of multimedia in the home environment has great potential, and is just getting started. By combining a powerful dual-core system on a chip with both Wi-Fi and DECT, XpandR III represents a new era in home connected multimedia terminals and telephony."
Zimerman also said that “The latest in our line of advanced chipset solutions, XpandR III brings together voice, video, audio and data to open the door to innovative applications such as visual telephony, multimedia streaming, media-content sharing, and home control and monitoring. Providing CE manufacturers with a highly integrated, single-vendor, cost-optimized solution, XpandR III not only promotes mass market adoption, but also ensures fast time to market."
