Cisco Intros Free WebEx Meeting Center Application for BlackBerry Smartphones

By Raja Singh Chaudhary, TMCnet Contributor

Cisco (News - Alert), a provider of networking solutions that transform the way people connect, communicate and collaborate, has announced to introduce a new, free, downloadable Cisco WebEx Meeting Center application for BlackBerry (News - Alert) smartphones, that will help the enterprises in mobile business collaboration and will improve their online meeting experience.

With the help of Cisco WebEx Meeting Center for BlackBerry smartphones, the business users are able to attend online meetings, and view shared documents and desktops directly from their smartphones. The application for BlackBerry smartphones can be downloaded directly from webex.com or on BlackBerry appworld at www.blackberry.com/appworld.

After installing the application, the WebEx audio conferencing system calls the users back to join the meeting once they click on the meeting URL to join a Cisco WebEx online meeting from their BlackBerry smartphone. When they reply to the audio call, the data portion of the meeting is automatically launched on their smartphones.

With this application, Cisco has tried to make it convenient for the BlackBerry smartphone users to join and participate in Cisco WebEx online meetings, while the Cisco WebEx Meeting Center application enables them to use elements such as the menu option to access the features and shortcuts for fast navigation even when they are moving.

Hosts of the online meeting can leverage the application to start a scheduled meeting that has previously been scheduled on a computer, and can also transfer the presenter control on to another attendee participating from a computer.

Apart from viewing shared presentations, applications, and desktops with live annotations, the BlackBerry smartphone users can see the attendee list, find out who's talking at a particular time, and chat privately with one or all of the attendees through the in-meeting experience on their smartphones.

The application delivers online meetings through the Cisco WebEx Collaboration Cloud, which is a real-time, global network that is fast, reliable and highly secure, and provides the performance necessary for high-quality mobile business meetings to the users.

According to Jeff McDowell, Senior Vice President, Business Segment Marketing and Alliances at Research In Motion, WebEx and the BlackBerry solution are both broadly deployed in the enterprise, which makes the Cisco WebEx Meeting Center application for BlackBerry smartphones a natural fit for businesses today. McDowell noted that together, Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and BlackBerry smartphones provide a highly secure, rich, and intuitive experience for mobile business users.

In April 2010, Cisco announced that it is going to expand its portfolio of small business technology with new solutions to help small businesses connect their business to the world, secure their network and communicate effectively.
