Listen up, media planners. Better have an Internet ad strategy tailored to gadgets.
That’s because Google (News - Alert) Inc. predicts the rates that companies pay for search ads on mobile phones to surpass the rates of its existing PC-based ad business thanks to the growing popularity of powerful smartphones.
According to reports, Google Engineering Vice President Vic Gundotra said mobile ad rates have increased “dramatically” in recent years.
Additionally, that the number of Google searches on mobile phones have increased five-fold in the last two years.
“We hope and believe that there’s even a chance that we could exceed desktop in the future,” Gundotra reportedly said.
In related news, Google announced a Nexus One compatible with AT&T’s 3G network on Tuesday.
This new model can be purchased as an unlocked device without a service plan. In addition to AT&T’s (News - Alert) 3G network, this device will also run on Rogers Wireless in Canada. And like the first version of the Nexus One, it can be used with most GSM operators globally.
