Facebook for BlackBerry v 1.9 Now Available

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

When it comes to technology and mobile interfaces; constant updates are a must and facelifts are just another day at the office. In a recent Mashable report, we learned that the new beta version of Facebook (News - Alert) for BlackBerry version 1.9 is now available.

This latest version of Facebook for BlackBerry is faster than past releases, while also delivering a whole range of new features that make the app compete more aggressively with iPhone and Android (News - Alert). Some of its offerings: a new navigation bar, enhanced listings for friends and Pages, Facebook Search and a dedicated inbox.

Search through the BlackBerry (News - Alert) Beta Zone to find the Facebook for BlackBerry 1.9 and take advantage of the free signup.

This newest version for Facebook and BlackBerry users offer a full range of demanded features, including a dedicated inbox that allows the user to choose to view Facebook messages within the BlackBerry message inbox or through a separate inbox designated just for Facebook. To take it one step further, Facebook Messages are also synchronized with the inbox on the Web.

The Facebook Search allows users to search for individuals and Pages before sending a friend request to individuals or “Liking” a page if they so choose. Users of the BlackBerry 6 can also get Facebook information from the universal search widget.

Users are also likely to enjoy updated friends and page lists, which are now organized in tables and included thumbnails. Users can select a friend or page to access to see individual information or updates instantly.

It truly is encouraging to see companies like RIM keeping in step with the latest innovations and delivering what users want from their BlackBerry. After all, even with the increasing dominance of the iPhone (News - Alert), BlackBerry still has significant value to offer to the targeted user. And, with the consistently growing popularity of Facebook – anyone not on that bandwagon is writing their own death sentence.

In other RIM news, TMCnet recently reported the company has now opened an online portal for BlackBerry users who want to browse for apps on a larger screen. This move does enable RIM to emulate Apple (News - Alert), while also responding to the growing demands of its user base.
