Preferred Voice Inc. Business Operations Acquired By ClearSky Mobile Media

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

ClearSky Mobile Media (News - Alert), Inc., is a reputed provider of managed mobile data services and content to regional wireless carriers. The company recently announced that they had acquired substantially all assets and clients of mobile content pioneer, Preferred Voice (News - Alert), Inc. (PVI). After completing this acquisition, ClearSky has added an additional two million subscribers and now also owns and operates the technologically superior "Rockin' Ringback" platform.

During the second quarter of 2010, the U.S. mobile data market grew 6 percent and reached service revenues of $13.2 billion, according to the data collected by Chetan Sharma Consulting. Now that data revenue is currently accounting for almost 31 percent of operator ARPU, deploying a quality suite of data services is critical to a carrier's future. By integrating the ringback tone (RBT) platform with ClearSky's Unified Media Center (UMC), which got finished in late 2009, significantly advanced ClearSky's broad array of mobile data services and positioned its carrier clients to continue to grow their data revenues and profits. ClearSky's Unified Media Center is a single content storefront complete with major-label ringtones, ringback tones, images, games and video clips.

In a release, ClearSky president and CEO, Bill Poellmitz said that "PVI and ClearSky have enjoyed a mutually beneficial business relationship for several years, first with PVI as a supplier of downloadable content to ClearSky, and more recently as partners to deploy single content storefronts to a number of regional carriers. The tight integration between ClearSky's UMC and PVI's "Rockin' Ringback" platform, now in production for over six months, is already the foundation for incremental data revenue growth for ClearSky's existing and new clients."

During the late 2004, PVI launched the first commercially available ringback tone service in the United States. The ringback service enable users to choose an audio file that callers hear while the phone rings, replacing the traditional ringing sound. Users were able to use this service and make things more personal, one of the features that are especially popular in the youth market.
