Teradata has announced that they have deployed an Active Data Warehouse for SmarTone-Vodafone, a provider of total communications services in Hong Kong and Macau.
By leveraging the superior performance and scalability of the new Teradata (News - Alert) system, SmarTone-Vodafone is able to dig deeper into detailed operational data in order to extract greater business value.
The officials explain that the new Teradata system is SmarTone-Vodafone's (News - Alert) third-generation data warehouse. This platform extends the traditional data warehouse functionality into a more mature and pervasive data environment known as Active Enterprise Intelligence. Through this operational approach to data warehousing, the database platform supports operational processes in real time as well as strategic decision making.
Stephen Chau, chief technology officer of SmarTone-Vodafone notes Hong Kong as one of the world's most competitive markets for communications service providers. Their company has been using data warehousing technology since the late 1990s to strengthen their position in this market.
He appreciates Teradata that provides a superior platform to run their business intelligence applications. The company’s Professional Services consultants worked with SmarTone-Vodafone to implement a much more manageable system and their business users have a single user interface for running queries and reporting.
Stanley Lam, general manager, Teradata Hong Kong and South China noted that the scalable and high performance Teradata Database is the foundation for the success of SmarTone-Vodafone’s active enterprise data warehouse.
“As an experienced data warehouse user, SmarTone-Vodafone is leveraging business intelligence right across the company. The greatest beneficiaries of the new Teradata solution, however, are the users who can now mine data at the atomic level of information,” said Lam.
Teradata has been positioned by market research firm Gartner in the Leaders Quadrant in the 2008 “Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems.” The company was also positioned a leader in the database and server analysis “Gartner (News - Alert) Server Evaluation Model Toolkit 5 for 2008.”
