Nexcom Intros NSA Platforms Based on RMI's XLS Processor Family

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

NEXCOM announced the introduction of its DNA1500 and DNA1501 Network Security
Appliance platforms based on RMI Corporation’s XLS Processor (News - Alert) family. The XLS is a multi-core multi-threaded processor which is suitable for the Small and Medium Business (SMB) market for their networking, storage and security based applications.

The DNA1500 and DNA1501 include RMI’s XLS204 and XLS208 SoC (Super SoC) processors. The Nexcom platforms offer optimum performance for applications like Security, Firewall, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Anti-Virus, Intrusion (News - Alert) Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS).
Andrew Huang, AVP of Sales, Nexcom (News - Alert) said that the high performance and strong feature set of the XLS Processor family from RMI lead to its selection for the new generation of SMB security appliances. This family of processors enabled Nexcom to produce the best performing platform in that price class.
Both the platforms are fanless desktop designs provided with six Gigabit Ethernet ports for WAN and LAN connections. It also has two USB ports, one RJ45 console port and two Mini PCIe ports for 802.11 a/b/n wireless support besides others. The platforms are built on RMI’s XLS204 and XLS 208 Processors.
These processors offer two MIPS64-BIT cores along with eight fine grain hardware threads and operate at up to 1 GHz. The processors also feature an Autonomous Security Acceleration Engine. This allows the processor to perform application processes along with encryption and decryption of data according to the needs of the application ensuring optimum processor utilization.
“By providing a feature rich and best-in-class price/performance platform based on the XLS Processors, Nexcom enables OEMs to quickly build leading solutions with reduced time to market,” said Mark Litvack, director of business development, RMI.
Litvack added, “XLS provides a level of price/performance and features previously unavailable and Nexcom’s DNA1500 and DNA1501 will provide mutual customers the best solution in a ready to use, robust and integrated platform for the security market.”
NEXCOM International offers OEM, ODM and OBM designs for several products including blade servers; network security appliances; industrial and embedded PC products such as single board computers, embedded boards and systems; CompactPCI (News - Alert) CPU boards; industrial-grade server boards; and customized platforms.
RMI Corporation is a fables semiconductor company offering Super System-on-a-Chip (SoC) Processor solutions suitable for infrastructure, enterprise and consumer media markets. The company caters to Wireless, Networking Security, Thin Clients, and Connected Multi-Media applications.
