Tangent Launches Enterprise E-mail Archival Appliance

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Seeking to offer advanced search capabilities, ease of use and affordability, Tangent Inc. today unveiled DataCove 8000L, which company officials describe as a feature-rich enterprise class e-mail archival appliance based on the DataCove OS 4.0.

The company says large scale compliance and archiving projects will find this product appealing as it provides advantages such as reliability, processing power, data throughput and Tier 1 technical support.

With DataCove 8000L, which is said to be an affordable e-mail solution, companies can preserve all e-mails, digital faxes and even instant messages through a simple plug and play network appliance. It provides features such as clustering, alphabetized and paginated search results, and advanced compression of e-mails on Raid and Worm media, according to the company. With a sign-on and a wizard for easy setup, DataCove 8000L also provides an LDAP Active Directory authentication. The plug-and-play appliance can be deployed in less than 90 minutes and can be installed anywhere in a network, company officials say.

The DataCove 8000L joins the DataCove family of e-mail archival products. Complying with new changes to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and state civil rules for e-discovery, DataCove officials say their company allows organizations of all sizes to index, archive and instantly retrieve electronically stored information, according to the company. Companies now need to provide secure unalterable and even encrypted archival of all electronically stored information, according to the current Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, SOX and HIPAA regulations, officials say.

DataCove can archive e-mail for virtually any type of network environment as it has the capacity of e-mail journaling or SMTP push technology, according to the company. Starting at $50,000 for unlimited users, it integrates with all e-mail systems, including Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange, Lotus Notes, Novell Groupwise, and SendMail, company officials say.

“The latest addition to the DataCove lineup of compliant appliances, is the most cost effective long term storage solution on the market today for enterprise class networks,” said Edward Alexei, vice president of IT solutions for Tangent. “The tremendous growth of data, the complexity of compliant storage and the need for fast, granular retrieval of information from within networks with tens and hundreds of Terabytes of data, has created an overwhelming demand for a product like the DataCove 8000L.”
