Apptix Launches Hosted Microsoft OCS Release 2

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

On the heels of wide industry recognition for its CFO and CEO, Apptix, a provider of hosted Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange e-mail, Microsoft SharePoint and VoIP services for businesses throughout the world, has announced the launch of hosted Microsoft Office Communications Server Release 2.

The release is designed to help customers receive Web conferencing for secure Instant Messaging products individually or bundled with Apptix’s (News - Alert) other business communications services.
“Our launch of hosted OCS R2 provides organizations of all sizes, from home offices to large enterprises, an affordable and integrated option for leveraging the flexibility of Web conferencing and secure Instant Messaging services,” said James Bond, Apptix’s vice president of products and software development. “Offering the latest release of OCS as a hosted product is another step towards our end goal: a true hosted Unified Communications (News - Alert) solution integrating the wide portfolio of business communication and collaboration services we offer.”

The OCS R2 solution delivers software-powered Web and audio conferencing capabilities that are designed to work with existing IT infrastructures. As a result, end users can receive streamlined communications, ensuring they contact the right person, the first time, directly from within applications like Office Outlook.
With Apptix Web Conferencing, customers have access to unlimited, real-time Web meetings with customers and team members. It seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Outlook to enable quick and easy scheduling.

When a meeting is being conducted, users can give a presentation or demo, share desktops, brainstorm, collaborate with whiteboards and discuss business deals. All of this can be done from any Internet-connected PC.
The Apptix Secure IM enables instant messaging in addition to PC-to-PC or PC-to-Mobile audio or video chats and file transfer within a single application. As a result, the solution provides a secure and private alternative to open, non-secure IM platforms, enabling organizations to meet state and federal regulations in terms of communications security, archiving and compliance.
Rich Presence awareness is possible with Microsoft Exchange calendaring integration. This allows co-workers to instantly determine the status of colleagues based on their Exchange calendar and start dialogues in a variety of methods through Microsoft Communicator.

As companies continue to push for more and more Web and audio conferencing with customers and colleagues around the world, the demand for Apptix solutions will grow. This latest launch will ensure the company is well positioned to embrace these opportunities.

In other Apptix news, announced in February that it secured a contract with one of the largest U.S. healthcare systems to provide standardized e-mail services for more than 100,000 employees spread across multiple facilities.
The same month, Apptix CEO landed Dave Ehrhardt on the Washington SmartCEO Magazine’s 2010 Smart100 list. According to Apptix, Smart100 CEOs are recognized for leadership, strategic vision, and character in running a business.
More recently, the company announced that CFO Chris Mack (News - Alert) has been named to Washington SmartCEO Magazine’s 2010 SmartCFO list.
