'Miss Exxxotica' photos force Miss Weston to give up beauty crown
Mar 12, 2011 (The Miami Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Caroline Schwitzky is simply too hot for Miss Universe.
Schwitzky, the recently crowned Miss Weston USA, has relinquished her throne after racy -- but nonpornographic -- videos of her surfaced on adult websites.
As it turns out, Schwitzky laid claim to an entirely different title before her beauty pageant fame: Miss Exxxotica 2008. The Exxxotica porn convention makes an annual appearance in Miami Beach.
In a resignation letter this week, Schwitzky -- a Hialeah-Miami Lakes graduate -- apologized for letting down friends, family and fans, but stopped short of admitting any wrongdoing.
"Everybody has a past and every day I live with it," Schwitzky told The Miami Herald Friday. "This is my journey. I know the consequences of my actions. But I want to be a role model and show young girls what not to do.
"Everybody deserves a second chance."
And, the way Schwitzky tells it, she made contest judges aware of her modeling background before the pageant even began. Now, she feels that contest organizers have questioned her moral character and judged her unfairly.
Not so, said Grant Gravitt Jr., the executive producer of Miss Florida USA. Shortly after she was crowned, Tel-Air Productions, the pageant's organizers, had started receiving e-mails pointing out Schwitzky's past, which was an apparent violation of the contest's morality bylaws.
Gravitt had set up a meeting with Schwitzky earlier this week to discuss the situation, but she had already chosen a course of action: Fire off a resignation letter and alert the media.
"We're pretty sure this is a publicity stunt," Gravitt said. "We've been doing this for 50 years, and every now and then we'll get a situation like this. We roll with the punches."
A simple Google search of Schwitzky's name calls up pages of saucy images deemed a no-no by Miss Weston organizers.
In one video, in which Schwitzky is named the 2009 Ms. March Hardbody by 305HipHop.com, she is shown in provocative poses wearing nothing but a G-string and creatively placed body paint.
But Schwitzky's true fame -- or infamy, in the eyes of Tel-Air Productions -- was her participation in the Exxxotica Expo's beauty contest, which came with a first-place cash price of $2,000.
Despite its association with the self-proclaimed largest "adult event in the U.S.A., featuring hundreds of adult stars, wild live entertainment and tons of exhibiting companies," the Miss Exxxotica contest itself is billed as nonpornographic.
Schwitzky competed -- and won -- at age 18, but the high-profile crown led to her pictures and videos appearing on adult websites all over the blogosphere. Schwitzky could not immediately be reached for comment.
"We are sad to hear Ms. Schwitzky is being discriminated against because of her Miss Exxxotica title," J. Handy of Victory Tradeshow Management, Exxxotica's parent company, told Adult Video News' website.
"The competition, and Exxxotica as a whole, is a celebration of sexy. It sounds more like the Miss Weston pageant is looking for their 15 minutes of fame, all while preaching from atop their moral soapbox."
As Miss Weston USA, Schwitzky would have had the opportunity to compete in the Miss Florida pageant, which feeds into the Miss USA and Miss Universe contests.
Instead, the honor will go to the first runner-up, Gianina Acevedo, Gravitt said.
"Yes, I may have taken pictures; I don't deny it," said Schwitzky, a born-again Christian who is now active in her church. "I did what I did. But I don't regret what I did. It made me who I am today."
