August 25, 2010

Virgin Mobile India, India’s first national, youth-focused mobile service, were able to cut travel expenses by 20 percent by making use of HD video conferencing systems from LifeSize Communications, a dealer in high definition video communications and telepresence.

“Virgin Mobile” branded services are being offered to Indian consumers by Tata Teleservices through a brand franchise with Virgin Mobile.

Officials with Virgin Mobile India said they never expected video communications to be so mission critical. They’ve cut air travel, yet productivity and collaboration have increased because everyone – from product management to marketing and IT – is meeting face to face daily. Measured by travel savings alone, they realized their ROI in just six months.

Virgin Mobile wanted a video conferencing system that would offer superb video and audio quality while at the same time blend seamlessly into the company’s existing unified communications tools. After thorough evaluation the mobile service provider deployed LifeSize Room HD video conferencing systems for the company’s corporate offices in Mumbai and New Delhi. LifeSize systems has offered a lot of benefits to Virgin Mobile which now plans to expand its LifeSize network as it adds 10 new regional offices over the next two years.

According to LifeSize, LifeSize Room combines an immersive, high definition video experience with a rich set of features to deliver a powerful, flexible, and easy-to-use video communication solution. Like all LifeSize products, LifeSize Room delivers telepresence-quality, high definition video and audio for a realistic, authentic experience. It makes users feel like they are there, allowing them to do more yet travel less.

Craig Malloy, chief executive officer of LifeSize Communications, said that India has been focused on establishing itself as a knowledge-based society and, with the commensurate rapid growth in broadband penetration across the country, the opportunities for Indian companies to use video conferencing have never been greater. Virgin Mobile India is at the leading edge of a revolution in communications in India and LifeSize is proud to have earned its trust as a key technology provider.
