Palo Alto (News - Alert), Cali.-based startup nyoombl, Inc. has announced batch discount codes on the nyoombl Greypfroot. The announcement came close on the heals of the company demonstrated its home teleconferencing technology at DEMO Spring 2010.
WIRED Magazine’s Priya Ganapati describes nyoombl Greypfroot as “a tiny device that promises to make video conferencing a better experience by using the TV that’s already in your living room.”
“The one big benefit this technology has over what Skype (News - Alert) plans to do with TV sets is that [this] can be added to any old TV without having to buy a new TV hardware,” said CNET’s Josh Lowensohn in a review section on CNET News.
nyoombl has already expressed its plans to take teleconferencing from the enterprise to the home through TV teleconferencing. “Just as we have demonstrated Gmail interoperability with the Greypfroot, anyone with a Hotmail or Yahoo account will also be able to use an existing TV and his or her email account to enjoy TV to PC video-calling,” said David Alessio, Cofounder and CTO, nyoombl, Inc.
nyoombl faced a malfunction during the presentation at DEMO and the Founder and CEO, Oladayo Olagunju, took complete responsibility for it. The glitch notwithstanding, CNET’s Editor at large, Rafe Needleman, tweeted live, “nyoombl is videocall gizmo for TVs, calls Google (News - Alert) vid or other nyoombls. Part 1 of demo failed, but the pitchman is cool as can be.” Also at the event was The Wall Street Journal’s Katie Boehret who tweeted, “Talk about keeping cool under pressure.”
Needleman also commented in a CNET article that nyoombl’s Greypfroot is also “a dedicated Google Video chat device, so anyone on the Web can call a family’s living room. Users can also connect to other TVs. This is the vision of videoconferencing we were all pitched when we were kids: calling from family room to family room.”
Amid mounting excitement over its products, nyoombl is trying to keep up with requests for pre-order discount codes. The company’s palm-sized Android (News - Alert)-OS based device is also being eagerly awaited.
