Avistar Communications Corp., a San Mateo, Calif.-based based provider of unified visual communications solutions, is reportedly demonstrating its high-definition desktop videoconferencing technology, which has been claimed to be manageable and scalable with LifeSize (News - Alert) at Lotusphere this week in booth #709.
Avistar has integrated the Avistar (News - Alert) C3 Conference and the Avistar C3 Command solution, with Lotus Sametime 8.5, using IBM’s enhanced Telephony Conferencing Interface. The integration of these solutions has enabled a manageable, scalable and economical desktop visual communications experience.
“The game has changed for desktop videoconferencing, now that HD is available,” Stephen Epstein (News - Alert), chief marketing officer, Avistar, said. “But with that said, HD support has to be introduced in a thoughtful and intelligent way.”
Avistar officials believe that without proper controls, bridging software and application intelligence, HD desktop videoconferencing can saturate precious desktop resources needed for business critical applications.
“Where other vendors have ignored these challenges in favor of getting their HD desktop support to market early, Avistar has focused on addressing the network and desktop challenges that come with desktop HD by using its years of bandwidth management expertise, in addition to building and thoroughly testing its media processing logic, to ensure a seamless, reliable and exciting HD experience to the end-user,” Epstein said. “We believe the industry will welcome our approach to HD and our extended support of Lotus Sametime 8.5, which will allow system and network administrators to have full control over their desktop visual communications environment, while lower operating costs and providing a world class experience to the end user.”
Avistar boasts more than 18,000 desktop videoconferencing and collaboration installations in more than 40 countries. Avistar's C3 (News - Alert) Desktop Videoconferencing and Collaboration solution won the 2008 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine. In November last year, TMCnet reported that Avistar has released new editions of its Avistar C3 software for both Microsoft (News - Alert) and Citrix platforms.
