ACS To Provide Real-Time System for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority

January 12, 2010

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will be provided with a Real Time Transit Information System by Affiliated Computer Services, both organizations announced.

ACS officials said that RTI would provide up-to-date bus arrival/departure information to riders via the Web, telephone systems and on dynamic message signs at selected stops and Light Rail Vehicle Stations.

Company officials said that bus and LRV arrival and departure information will be displayed on dynamic message signs located along selected bus stops as well as LRV stations.

Specific signs will be equipped with an Americans with Disabilities-compliant audio component allowing passengers with disabilities to hear what is being displayed on the sign.

According to company officials, the RTI system will also be integrated to the San Francisco Bay Area 511 traveler information system that will allow individuals to obtain travel information from their homes, businesses or mobile phones and via ACS’ SmartTraveler Plus web portal for passengers to view and sign up for arrival information via email or SMS messaging.

“When the real time project is completed, our customers will be able to receive immediate bus and light rail arrival time by phone or PDA to better plan their trips,” said Michael T. Burns, general manager, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, in a statement.

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is an independent special district that provides sustainable, accessible, community-focused transportation options that are innovative, environmentally responsible, and promote the vitality of the region.

David Kachemov, senior vice president and managing director of ACS Transportation Solutions Group, said that ACS’ partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will allow them to leverage its investment in OrbCAD system and convey real time schedule information as one means of growing ridership and making service more attractive to the public.

ACS provides business process outsourcing and information technology solutions to world-class commercial and government clients.
