Celeno, a provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, has announced that VIZIO’ 24” portable HDTV made use its beam forming Wi-Fi chipset for demonstration at CES (News - Alert) 2010.

The new VIZIO HDTV is able to deliver enhanced whole-home wireless high definition experience with the help of Celeno’s chipset and give consumers the unprecedented flexibility to place and move their portable hdmi-cable free thin LCD panels anywhere in the home.

A portable HDTV solution consists of a compact Wireless A/V “base station” with TV tuner and A/V inputs such as HDMI and analog A/V interfaces, and an HDTV with nothing but an AC power cord. The base station wirelessly transmits HD signals it had received to the portable wireless LCD panel that can be placed anywhere in the home. Celeno has stated that its new robust Wi-Fi based solution offers a Full HD wireless experience for consumers even through multiple walls and ceilings.

VIZIO officials said that the new generation of thin and light HDTVs has created consumer demand for a whole home portable TV solution that can be easily moved with a built in handle and only requiring a power outlet. Using Celeno’s WIFI chipset to distribute HD quality video over standard 802.11n is a compelling solution to enable portable TVs that still have access to all of the user’s video sources such as Blu-ray, Cable TV or Satellite TV.

Celeno has claimed that its new beam forming 802.11n Wi-Fi chipset are powered by its field-proven OptimizAIR technology suite that optimizes 802.11n performance for whole-home HD video distribution applications and are capable of quadrupling 802.11n systems’ performance. The new Wi-Fi chipset can support up to 8 concurrent HD video streams and meets carrier grade performance requirements while maintaining client silicon agnostic operation.

Gilad Rozen, Celeno’s CEO, has stated that their Wi-Fi is not typical 802.11n and their chipset employs cross layer optimization of multiple techniques and features to extend wireless performance for multi-room HD video streaming. They are proud to be selected and work with VIZIO on advanced wireless TV solutions.

In related news Alpha Networks recently selected Celeno CL1300 Wi-Fi and Celeno launched Wi-Fi technology for carrier grade HD video.
