Andrew's Wireless Solutions Improve Communications in China's Sinopec

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Soon the employees of the Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company (ZRCC) in Ningbo, China will have access to more reliable, complete wireless coverage all because of a new equipment contract with Andrew, which is the CommScope, Inc. division, a well known provider of wireless communication systems and products.

One of the main reasons why this Chinese refinery and petrochemicals company will use Andrew’s advanced wireless solutions is because they want to improve and strengthen wireless signals and reduce signal jamming. The company also wants to expand coverage in indoor and outdoor areas of ZRCC’s crude oil wharf, chemical park and other company facilities that are located in Ningbo, China.

Andrew has plans to upgrade ZRCC’s analog trunk radio system to a digital 800 MHz TETRA (terrestrial trunked radio) system which is the mobile radio standard often employed by public safety and emergency organizations, to help alleviate communications bottlenecking.

Ben Cardwell who is the vice president of sales and marketing of Andrew’s Asia Pacific division said that ZRCC will make its new TETRA network available to multiple production units and locations within its organization. He said that this would result in more effective and uniform central management and dispatches among production and office areas as well as to improve resource sharing.

Andrew is also set to supply repeater equipment, coaxial cable and cable assemblies, indoor and outdoor antennas and other wireless network components for ZRCC. Andrew has been involved for a long time with the Chinese market providing them with wireless solutions for locations vulnerable to weak wireless signal levels such as subway tunnels, high speed train lines, airports, sports arenas and other large buildings.

Andrew has also recently provided solutions for many other important projects such as the National Center for the Performing Arts, Beijing-to-Tianjin and Shijiazhuang-to-Taiyuan high speed railways, Ministry of Environmental Protection Building, Beijing Subway and Shanghai Metro.

Andrew started providing these advanced wireless infrastructure solutions in China during the early 1970s and this has led to its establishment of solid, long term cooperative relationships with all of the major Chinese operators and OEMs.
