University of New Mexico (UNM) has selected Applied Voice & Speech Technologies CallXpress to support over 9,000 users campus wide.

UNM is the state's largest university serving more than 32,000 students. It is home to the state's only schools of law, medicine, pharmacy and architecture and operates New Mexico's only academic health center.

UNM after finding that its current voicemail system was performing unreliably, decided to go for a replacement.

The University officials said that after careful consideration and positive feedback from other universities, it opted to deploy CallXpress over other systems.

The CallXpress Unified Communications (News - Alert) platform is designed to facilitate the enterprise migration from legacy TDM call processing and voicemail solutions to IP-enabled Unified Communications by delivering the interoperability, scalability, feature depth and flexibility and administrative capabilities that enterprise IT and Telecom teams are demanding.

CallXpress delivers all of the features that companies need the most—including advanced call processing, voicemail, unified messaging, fax, notification and speech.

"Every single organization that we talked to that owned a CallXpress system noted that it was easy to install, extremely stable, and bottom line – it worked," said Mark Reynolds, associate director UNM.

Reynolds noted that the university’s diverse networking environment, which supports many high-volume, critical-path departments, required a communications infrastructure that worked reliably from day one and needs no babysitting – CallXpress fitted the bill on all accounts.

UNM officials were introduced to CallXpress by Black Box Corporation, a partner and AVST (News - Alert) reseller.

"We are very pleased to add the University of New Mexico to our family of valued customers," said Crosby Smith, vice president, western region for Black Box (News - Alert).
Black Box is a technical services company dedicated to designing, building and maintaining today's complicated data and voice infrastructure systems.

Smith said that the UNM staff could not have been any easier to work with, and it was a great team effort by all involved to select, purchase and deploy AVST's solution within the 90-day timeframe allotted.

Applied Voice & Speech Technologies, Inc. (AVST) is a developer of communications solutions for businesses of all sizes.

The company in December announced that its flagship Unified Communications (UC) platform, CallXpress, now supports GotVoice, a leader in voicemail transcription services, to provide business users with the ability to quickly view their voicemail content when access to audio is prohibited or challenging.

AVST will leverage GotVoice’s (News - Alert) Voicemail-to-Text functionality to enable CallXpress users to read their voicemail messages on their mobile device or computer.
