Avaya, SpinVox and Mutare Software have jointly developed a new solution that enables mobile users to read their voice messages. The unified communications tool converts the audio (speech) into text which can be helpful in retrieving voice messages in places where audio access is problematic.

Business users will find this tool very useful as they need not have to replay the audio to get the details down. By using the tool they can respond easily and quickly to the incoming voice messages.

This tool - Avaya (News - Alert) Speech to Text is an easily deployed, integrated, secure solution that improves employee productivity, workgroup collaboration and responsiveness.

Avaya delivers Intelligent Communications solutions that help companies transform their businesses to achieve marketplace advantage. Mutare Software deals in interactive voice and Web applications development. SpinVox (News - Alert) provides voice to text messaging services.

Avaya Speech to Text solution is available for Avaya Modular Messaging unified messaging and includes Mutare Software's EVM gateway and SpinVox Speech to Text messaging service.

The solution combines the unified messaging capabilities of Mutare Software’s Enabled Voicemail (EVM) with SpinVox’s voice-to-text service. The voice message after being processed will be delivered as a text version of the spoken voicemail to users’ email inbox. It will appear like an email, but it will have speech marks around the message to indicate that the message was a spoken voicemail and not a regular text message. And also erratic audio will also be pointed out to the user in the converted text itself.

The speech to text tool will also come in handy for users in a noisy environment. Workers who deal with numerous amounts of records need not have to be distracted to attend a voice call. They can divert the incoming speech to the text converter and carry on with their work. The converted text will be saved in the specified format which can be opened and used for later reference.

iStar Financial, a finance company focused on the commercial real estate industry, uses Avaya Speech to Text to speed decision-making and customer response: "I hear on a daily basis about how much time our users are saving now that they can read their voice mail messages," said Jaime King, telecom specialist for iStar Financial. "I believe the greater benefit, though, is to our customers. In a market as volatile as international commercial real estate, any tool that helps close gaps of time between communications could make the difference between a successful transaction and a missed opportunity. Speech to Text makes us more responsive, and that has a direct impact on our bottom line as well as that of the clients we serve."

The speech to text tool is very efficient as it is stated to eliminate the time wasted in checking voicemail, scribbling notes, playing back names and phone numbers. Users can check their messages through email or mobile device, anywhere, any time.

SpinVox states that Network security for the solution is also guaranteed. The encryption used will ensure that email information cannot be transmitted across the Internet in plain text and cannot be accessed by unauthorized parties.
