Mobile network operator Digicel (News - Alert) Group this week announced plans to expand its existing BroadSoft BroadWorks platform and UC-One unified communications (UC) portfolio of services. The provider will bring these new services to its customers across the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific regions.
This news comes soon after BroadSoft (News - Alert) made the decision to bring UC-One to iOS, Android (News - Alert) and Chrome OS with new mobile-focused applications. It’s unclear whether Digicel will offer these newly minted apps to its customers, but given their unique ability to serve mobile workers and the prevalence of these types of workers, it seems likely.
“We are very excited about the expansion of our relationship with BroadSoft which dramatically increases our cloud telephony and unified communications services to existing and new Digicel customers,” said Martin Carroll, group COO of Digicel Business.
Digicel’s current Cloud Telephony portfolio delivers innovative IP and cloud-based communications service offerings—including cloud PBX (News - Alert), UC and SIP trunking—to various markets. BroadSoft’s extensive selection of unified communications and collaboration technologies will allow Digicel to expand the scale of its offerings, providing complete solutions like fixed mobile substitution, fixed mobile convergence and UC that target small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises alike.
Some new services Digicel plans to offer include hosted PBX and SIP trunking, presence and instant messaging, video collaboration, and desktop/file sharing. While this may seem like a lot to take on at once, BroadSoft will provide Digicel with extensive business and technical expertise gained from working with hundreds of service provider customers around the world.
“With the ever changing and highly mobile workforces we serve today, a world-class unified communications platform is essential to deliver cost effective, flexible, and reliable communications services across any device and regardless of the physical location. We believe that BroadSoft has the right solutions and technical expertise to be the ideal partner for us as we significantly expand the unified communications service offerings in our target markets,” added Carroll.
