Best Practices for Migrating Unified Communications to the Cloud

Assuming readers haven’t been living off the grid for the past few years, you’ll know that there’s significant momentum to move virtually “E”verything to the cloud. After all, the use cases are proven, and more and more “mission critical” functionality is moving from premises-based solutions to the cloud.  In fact, one area where the benefits of migrating to the cloud have proven to be particularly attractive for organizations of all sizes and locations is unified communications.


Indeed, the interest in cloud-based unified communications (or "UC as a Service") according to several analyst reports, reflected in many company financial results, is accelerating. Realities are that UCaaS benefits of increased employee productivity, operational scalability, and business continuity are proving to be irresistible. 

Unfortunately, moving UC to the cloud is not plug-and-play.  In two words, “It’s Complicated.” Not all UC or cloud-based UC capabilities the same, integration issues can be daunting as there are numerous UCaaS providers, often with similar features and confusing options, making selection of the one that is right for your unique circumstances a challenge.

This raises the important question, “How can I choose the UCaaS vendor and solution that best fits my organizations requirements?”  It also raises a series of follow-on questions that need to be answered as well.
