Unified Communications Week in Review: Broadsoft, Vitelity, Tadiran
It's been another big week for unified communications (UC), and as we prepare for the grand technology show that is ITEXPO next week, we've got plenty of news to discuss going into the event as well. So to help get ready for the big show, now that we've got a weekend afoot, we're going to run down the biggest events of the week that was and put a look at all of these in one handy package with our Week in Review coverage!
First we had a look at Broadsoft, who was planning to step into the upcoming ITEXPO event by sending in Asif Rehman, its director of solutions product management, to join in a panel titled “What is Real Unified Communications, Really?” While the panel itself will discuss just what UC is and what it is not, Rehman also had another offering for us, providing an interview in which questions about UC were asked and answered. Rehman offered thoughts on Microsoft's rebranding of Microsoft Lync to how often video is used in business communications.
Next we had a look at UC trends for 2015, and just what we could expect out of the field in the upcoming year by way of Ovum analyst Brian Riggs. Riggs noted that Web-based real time communications (WebRTC) would make video ubiquitous in nature, and UC service providers would have a real opportunity to capitalize on those advances by bringing out solutions that could offer support for really complex hybridized deployments.
The South by Southwest (SXSW) Gaming Awards brought our next piece of news, as UC showed its presence in an unlikely forum: video gaming. The Gaming Awards would offer up as many as 20 different award categories representing over 400 total submissions to help find the best in 2014's gaming scene, and hopefully, provide a look at the upcoming 2015 in gaming as well. The winners would be in part decided by Wikia fans' voting, and voting is set to kick off soon as several new award categories were put in place.
Then came reports that Vitelity was joining the upcoming ITEXPO event as a gold sponsor, planning to send some of its leadership to two separate panels at the event. Vitelity will have a presence at the Tuesday, January 27 panel titled “Turning Simple Voice Communications into Profitable Interactions” as well as the Thursday, January 29 panel titled “Mobile Security Disconnect: What Have You Got to Lose?” Additionally, several Vitelity products will be on display at the event, and even has plans to launch two new products at the show itself, the vMobile Bring Your Own Device solution and the Encrypted SIP Trunking system.
Finally, Tadiran Telecom stepped in with a look at its 2014 in UC, and its own plans for next week's ITEXPO show. Specifically, we spoke with Mike Long, who serves as Tadiran's marketing manager to discuss not only 2014's events, but also plans for 2015 and beyond. Long pointed out several new product additions from the unified communication and collaboration (UCC) field, as well as the first time that Aeonix sales beat sales of Coral.
That was the week that was in UC, and a big week it was indeed. Our global online community was right at the tip of the spear, gathering up all the best in news and bringing it right back here. So be sure to join us back here next week for all the latest, and every weekend as well for our Week in Review coverage!
