Citrix Unveils New Podio IM Platform
Citrix has taken aim at Skype when it comes to the instant messaging features of its Podio platform. The company has said that the new features it added to the platform will allow teams of the users to respond quicker and make decisions much faster, even if they are in a number of different locations. Citrix acquired the platform in April and has been looking for ways to take advantage of the new program.
Bernardo de Albergaria, vice president and general manager of SaaS products and markets at Citrix, recently talked about the vision the company has for this particular platform saying, “Podio chat bridges the gap between ‘real time’ and ‘my time’, increasing the velocity of communications within Podio and making purposeful collaboration happen faster and more effectively – no more waiting for answers.”
Citrix is also saying that Podio is the first collaboration service that is able to provide IM and video chat “in context.” This means that users can identify the collaborators that are online inside their organization. This also allows them to see if there are any external partners that are online such as suppliers and contractors.
While this might eventually be something that competes against Microsoft’s Skype, at the moment it appears its going to need a little more work. At the moment, Podio is playing second fiddle in some aspects to Citrix’s previous release, GoToMeeting.
The company has also said that Podio will not be something that will actually replace GoToMeeting. The company released the solution with the goal of the two programs to basically be something that would work alongside each other. IM value is going through the roof in the business sector and companies like Citrix are finding new and interesting ways to take advantage of this new phenomenon. The company believes that Podio could be a step towards taking advantage of the IM boom.
