Swyx has hit a new milestone, as its cloud-based SwyxWare Datacenter Edition solution has reached 50,000 users.

This is a clear indication that more and more people are moving from hardware and software-based solutions to those in the cloud, accessing the same level of services without having to install anything.

The SwyxWare Datacenter Edition is the cloud-based version of the SwyxWare UC solution. While it has been available since 2007, it has only recently reached this many users, as more and more people are beginning to understand the benefits of a cloud-based solution.

It has all the same features as the regular SwyxWare, providing an established Unified Communications (News - Alert) solution while saving on installation costs. Users can access a variety of functions and features through software updates, while a service provider runs the solution to allow for flexibility and scalability.

“As a pioneer of unified communications in the cloud we already have established relationships with key European partners since 2007,” said Ralf Ebbinghaus, director of Sales, Marketing and Service for Swyx. “There is still massive untapped potential for this market. Ten percent of the Swyx users currently use cloud-based UC functionality, this is still well above the average.”

Now we have to ask: what does this mean for Swyx, as well as cloud-based services as a whole? While 50,000 users is a lot, it’s still just 10 percent of Swyx’s customer base. Of course, 10 percent itself is a healthy chunk of its users as well, and that number is likely to grow in the coming years.

Cloud-based solutions are becoming more popular and more desired, as the benefits are becoming apparent. The time, costs and space (both physical and data) saved make the cloud a very useful tool, and it’s likely that we’ll soon reach the point where the cloud overtakes traditional hardware and software. Time will tell.
