With “mobilocracy” increasing and mobile users simply unwilling to exert themselves more than necessary, developers are competing with each other to create apps that make it easy for customers to book hotel rooms from anywhere.

Egencia, already traveling down that road, has launched the next phase of Egencia Mobile.

Egencia, the corporate travel arm of Expedia Inc., now allows its customers to shop and book rooms for hotels on mobile Web, Android (News - Alert) and iPhone devices in North America, according to travel officials.

The launching of this next phase demonstrates Egencia's continued commitment to provide the best-in-class experience for its mobile users by placing more power in their hands.

With this new Egencia mobile application, mobile shoppers will reportedly have access to 150,000 hotel rooms, in addition to hotel information, maps and facility photos. This wide array of choices will enable users to compare the amenities that different hotels provide, before deciding to book a room.

The iPhone (News - Alert) design has also been updated with a refreshed interface that promises to support future mobile innovation. The design is consistent with the interface already present on the Mobile Web and Android platforms.

Business travelers, to whom time is precious, will find the new app a boon. Unlike other tools, Egencia Mobile follows travelers wherever they go, and gives them information that is relevant to their journey. Flight and destination alerts, online check-in, maps and customer support are just a touch away.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to conduct their travel, whether it's from their office or on the road. Our aim is for customers to feel in control wherever they are," said Mark Hollyhead, senior vice president, Egencia Americas.

The app, built for Egencia customers, is downloadable for free at the Apple App store, Google (News - Alert) Play, Amazon App Store and the mobile website.

Egencia also announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire VIA Travel, a travel management company in the Nordics.
