Azzurri to Drive UC Strategy and Consolidate Telecom Suppliers for City & Guilds

City & Guilds has signed Azzurri Communications as a strategic telecom partner to help in the consolidation of four existing telecom suppliers into one managed service, which will deliver to City & Guilds substantial cost savings and a subsequent reduction in associated complexities. The second rung of the contract will see Azzurri drive business change and expansion with a planned Unified Communications strategy.

In a release, Ian Turfrey, Head of Architecture, and Strategic Development, City & Guilds, said, “Our first priority was to procure a cost effective service and get more from our existing infrastructure, through an operational costing model rather than capital expenditure. We also wanted a long term strategic telecoms partner that could help take us on ‘the journey’ to a fully integrated unified communications environment. We believe this is the best way for us to support our business objectives of enhancing staff collaboration and productivity.”

Azzurri provided City & Guilds with commercial insight into identifying savings over their fixed voice estate and mobile estate which subsequently helped them make the transition to a managed service model. In the first phase, Azzurri will help City & Guilds upgrade its IP telephony network to the more advanced Mitel Communications Director software. During this phase Azzurri will also help in implementing Wi-Fi at the London headquarters of City & Guilds. After these changes, both companies will discuss the implementation of a new Mitel/Callmedia solution into City &Guild’s SAP CRM system, as well as SIP and WAN services deployment which will be provided by Azzurri via their new Intelligent Cloud-Optimised Network (ICON).

Ian Turfrey said, “We try to think as radically as possible about technology. As part of the RFP, we asked: ‘Do 500 people really need both a mobile and a fixed line phone?’ Most businesses currently have both, but we want to get to the point where the choice of device is irrelevant -- we just want to provide staff with the communication services they need regardless of their location.”

Implementation of SIP services will bring down ISDN costs for City & Guilds and offer them a single numbering plan. Azzurri’s ICON platform will enable City & Guilds to host and virtualize telecoms and network services as well as technologies as and when required. Azzurri will also extend its Mobile Extension (Mobex) and Mobile Extension Zone (MEZ) services which will allow City & Guilds to leverage Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), solution.
