Polycom Debuts Enterprise-Grade Voice-Over Wi-Fi Handset Featuring Integrated 2D Barcode Scanner

Polycom (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of standards-based unified communications (UC) solutions, has unveiled an enterprise-grade Voice-Over Wi-Fi handset, the Polycom SpectraLink 8452, featuring an integrated 2D barcode scanner.

Available immediately, Polycom’s new SpectraLink 8452 Voice-Over Wi-Fi handset integrates mobile phone, pager, push-to-talk functionality, barcode scanner and access to Web-based applications along with support for latest IEEE (News - Alert) Wi-Fi standard (802.11n) – all in a single device.

Facilitating workers to communicate and access data in a variety of ways from anywhere within the enterprise Wi-Fi network, the new SpectraLink 8452 helps improve employee responsiveness and productivity in healthcare, retail, manufacturing and hospitality environments.

Featuring the Polycom HD Voice sound quality for natural, crystal-clear conversations, the new Polycom SpectraLink 8452 handset boasts: a large color display with a simple and intuitive user interface; enterprise-grade durability; simple provisioning and management; and support for accessories such as battery packs and headsets.

In addition, the new SpectraLink 8452 handset has a barcode scanner that has the capability to read both 1D and 2D barcode images in hundredths of a second from a scanning distance of up to 34 inches and from a wide range of horizontal and vertical scan angles.

As a part of Polycom SpectraLink 8400 Series wireless telephones, the 8452 handset offers warranty, maintenance and service.

Officials with Polycom said that the SpectraLink 8452 handset is in the process of qualification to display and share call and directory information via Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync, which includes features such as presence and instant message information.

With the help of 2D barcode scanning technology integrated into SpectraLink 8452, Polycom is now capable of solving many challenges across a number of industry use cases such as: healthcare, where clinical staff can scan barcodes on patient’s wristbands to obtain medical records and verify patient medication; retail, where staff can scan barcodes for product inventory checks while interfacing with customers; industrial manufacturing, where manufacturers can scan barcodes to track parts and products through the supply chain and more.
