With the continued global adoption of Switchvox (News - Alert) Unified Communications (UC) solutions, Digium, the Asterisk Company, reported a 40 percent growth for its VoIP phone system in 2011.

According to a company announcement, Digium’s (News - Alert) Switchvox is designed for small- to mid-sized businesses (SMBs), providing an optimal platform for connecting and collaborating through such capabilities as integrated mobility, calling, conferencing and messaging, all at a competitive price.

Digium was recently recognized by industry research firm, Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) as the best value in UC phone systems. Frost & Sullivan recently honored Digium with the 2011 Customer Value Enhancement Award for UC in North America.

Digium is positioned in the market as delivering the best return on investment (ROI) compared with other business phone systems. Switchvox customers have reported savings of 60 percent or more on the initial investment, and as much as 80 percent on the total cost of ownership (TCO) over a five year period.

Such powerful results suggest that Switchvox delivers the functionality and features customers want in an enterprise class IP PBX (News - Alert) platform, yet at a fraction of the cost

“We're seeing tremendous traction in the small and medium business market because we're providing our customers with the absolute best value in business phone systems,” said Leslie Conway, vice president of global marketing at Digium, in a statement.

“Switchvox solutions allow these organizations to work where and how they want to work by incorporating support for mobile and remote workers. Our customers can do so much more with their phone system – they can integrate third-party business applications, easily collaborate and ultimately manage their businesses much more efficiently,” Conway added.

A major update was issued to the Switchvox product in 2011. Digium provided a number of enhancements for this platform that allowed for increased mobility in the workforce. Enterprise mobility continues to be a growing trend and companies are searching for UC solutions that support their mobile communications

With the Switchvox 5.0, users gain access to Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), which enables seamless integration between users and any external phone enabled with Switchvox. This enhancement allows users to route, record or transfer calls from anywhere, giving the appearance that they are at their office location.

Switchvox Mobile is now also available for Android (News - Alert) devices, extending the portfolio of support for iPhone and Blackberry devices. These mobile apps enable full integration with the main Switchvox phone system, allowing calls from the Switchvox extension, as well as full access to key user features.

Reporting and management features were also enhanced, while API capabilities were broadened to provide Switchvox administrations with added flexibility for integration and customization. Current Switchvox subscribers have immediate access to all of these new features.

With the consistently growing demand for UC and mobility, product platforms such as Switchvox will continue to enjoy strong growth as long as Digium is dedicated to innovation to deliver the necessary enhancements to meet the needs in growing trends.
