An innovative whiteboard solution, the Polycom (News - Alert) UC Board has been unveiled by Polycom Inc. The solution allows existing video display screens and mobile devices to be leveraged by meeting participants as interactive whiteboards for video collaboration. Communication and collaboration in video conferences is therefore improved. Polycom is a top global company in standards-based unified communications or UC.

Teamwork and participation using the traditional whiteboard are undermined during a video conference as whiteboard content is not easily visible to remote participants. A simple, elegant and cost-effective solution is now available with the Polycom UC Board. For the first time, video collaboration and whiteboard technology have been integrated with this solution. With a compact design for portability, the solution combines a plug-and-play receiver and stylus for ease-of-use.

Every participant can stay fully engaged as the solution transforms LCD monitors and display surfaces into a video whiteboard space. The latest Polycom RealPresence Room HDX solutions are natively integrated with the Polycom UC Board. Content can be therefore shared naturally, efficiently and easily. The software allows content to be shared by users participating in a video meeting. Key points can be written, annotated or highlighted on top of the presentation using the software.

According to Sudhakar Ramakrishna, EVP and GM, UC solutions and chief development officer, Polycom, whiteboard contents sharing is now as easy as picking up the pen with the first integrated video collaboration solution, Polycom UC Board.

In a release, Ramakrishna said, "That's great news for organizations of all kinds looking to bring remote employees and customers in a sales presentation, brainstorm, planning meeting, or training class with clear access to all the visual content being presented and discussed."

According to Christianne Orto, associate dean and director, Recording and Distance Learning, Manhattan School of Music, real time content annotation is now quick and easy with the Polycom UC Board. A first time user is also able to take over with the stylus due to software’s intuitive user interface.

Orto said, "Instructors can annotate scores and presentations as naturally and easily as with a traditional whiteboard, and their students see the results immediately. It instantaneously breaks down a significant barrier to remote instruction."
