New TigerText App Designed to Promote Privacy, Protect Cheaters

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

For those Tiger Woods wannabes that have no golf talent but seek to live a double or even triple lifestyle, a new application just may make life a little easier. Aptly named the TigerText for the iPhone (News - Alert), this latest app is from a company by the same name.

TigerText created this app, according to a report in PC World, to allow texting users to set a time limit for a text message. When the time if up, the message will self-destruct and will be wiped from the original phone, the receiving phone and the server.

According to the PC World piece, it is the perfect application for “cheating spouses, shady politicians, sexting teens and people who send a lot of stupid texts while drunk.”

The TigerText is free to try as the first 100 messages in 15 days are free. The application is free for those simply wanting to read messages and only $1.49 per 250 messages sent per month or $2.49 per month for unlimited messages.

Once the app is downloaded, a user must sign up for an account and tether it to the phone by way of a confirmation sent to the phone. After this process is complete, the user can start sending self-destructing messages.

Those receiving messages must download TigerText to access messages received to be read for free. Users set a time span for a text or “delete on read” can also be accessed which causes the message to delete itself 60 seconds after the recipient has opened the text. Think, “This message with self-destruct in T-60 seconds.”

Messages through the TigerText are never saved on either user’s phone or the carrier’s database. Only the TigerText server will save the text until the daily purge rids the servers of all incriminating evidence. The messages cannot be forwarded or copied.

The “delete history” option deletes all evidence of any conversation from the device when the application is exited. Unless the “delete history” option is enabled, it will keep a record of when, and to whom, the user sends texts on the device.

A Time report noted that the app was actually named before the Tiger Woods scandal. It is supposedly aimed at people who are simply concerned about privacy – not necessarily people who have something to hide. On the other hand, it comes in very handy for those who are trying to get away from prying eyes.

Jeffrey Evans, TigerText founder, believes that lawyers and business execs are more likely to be interested in this type of privacy than drunken college students and “sexting” teens. On the other hand, the price is just right for those seeking more help in averting the truth.

Currently available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, TigerText is expected to soon be available for the Blackberry and Android (News - Alert) platforms.

In other iPhone news, Apple has announced its discovery that three of its suppliers hired underage workers to help build its market-leading iPhone, iPod and Mac computers last year.

Hughes (News - Alert) Network Systems has partnered with iPhone to launch a digital signage iPhone application for its Hughes MediaSignage offering. The mobile application “allows network administrators to disseminate information and emergency notifications from their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad devices.”
