Dailymotion, a Web video site, has announced the launch of the Dailymotion iPhone (News - Alert) app, which includes content channels and capabilities for the creation of mobile video.

According to a press release, this new Dailymotion iPhone and iPod Touch App offers the ability to enjoy the full functionality of the main Web site. The company’s user-friendly iPhone application enables users to search from a library of more than 12 million videos.

Viewers will be able to surf or search within 14 themed channels like Music, Film and TV, Comedy, Sports and Extreme or discover the latest viral hits. The application also allows easy sharing of videos among friends besides allowing access and management of Dailymotion user accounts.

iPhone 3GS users will be able to record and upload videos straight from the handset to their Dailymotion accounts. The Dailymotion app launched the first iPhone Web video site in 2007, according to company sources.

The iPhone application will be available in nine different languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, and Greek. Users can also select between two versions. One version is a free, ad-supported model and the other is an ad-free model which is available for $5.99 directly from the Apple’s (News - Alert) App Store on the iPhone, iPod Touch and on iTunes.

“Our users love iPhones! We are delighted to offer them these new apps which provide the full Dailymotion experience in their favorite environment,” said Joy Marcus, general manager of Dailymotion US, in the release. “We are quite sure they will have a lot of fun.”

The Web site is capable of filtering infringing material as pointed out by content owners. It also offers 18 localized versions and ensures that the entertainment experience for users is optimized.
