Telstra Increases Mobile Content and Data Revenues on SurfKitchen Powered TelstraOne Experience Handsets

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

SurfKitchen has announced that Australian telecommunications and information services company Telstra was able to raise its mobile content and data revenues by 11 percent with SurfKitchen (News - Alert)-powered TelstraOne Experience handsets.

The TelstraOne Experience is a mobile-user interface that makes use of SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform to give subscribers quick and easy personalized access to applications and services they regularly use on their mobile phone.

SurfKitchen has stated that their SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform is designed to help the operator to deliver an intuitive and compelling experience to users across a wide range of handsets. It provides operators with a sophisticated applications storefront, an application launcher and a service creation environment -- a widget runtime engine -- which enhances mobile application/service acquisition and usability across the broadest range of phones.

Telstra (News - Alert) recently studied its customers’ mobile usage pattern and found out that 60 percent of them are more likely to use their TelstraOne Experience handsets on a weekly basis to access mobile web when compared to Telstra’s regular 3G mobile customers. The TelstraOne Experience handsets also increased the mobile data use by 7 percent than normal handsets.

Ross Fielding, executive director of Telstra Product Management, said that the company’s research has indicated consumers are much more likely to head online when they can easily setup and personalize links to their favorite sites. By leveraging SurfKitchen’s technology, TelstraOne brings icon-driven web access which is usually associated with smartphones to 3G feature phones.

Encouraged by the success of the initial rollout Telstra has decided to load the TelstraOne Experience onto the Sony Ericsson (News - Alert) Naite and Sony Ericsson T707 and let its pre-paid customers have the opportunity to experience TelstraOne for the first time.

Officials with SurfKitchen said the results Telstra has achieved with TelstraOne Experience are a testament to their close collaboration with Telstra. The success and reach of TelstraOne has demonstrated that a great user experience does not necessarily require a high-end phone, an important point as it highlights the potential for carriers to differentiate competitively priced mass-market phones that are sold every year.

Recently SurfKitchen joined Open Mobile Terminal Platform forum and was chosen by SMART.
