Altai Technologies Unveils New Outdoor Wi-Fi Solution

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Altai Technologies (News - Alert), a carrier-grade Super Wi-Fi equipment supplier, has unveiled a new outdoor WiFi solution: A8- Ei for 3G mobile data offload.

Company officials said that Altai's Super Wi-Fi solution is currently in commercial deployment or trial in over 50 cities of nearly 20 provinces in China for China Telecom, China Mobile (News - Alert) and Unicom. And, the Altai A8-Ei is an all-in-one integrated base station that is simply plug and play for 3G operators.

“The newly-launched Altai A8-Ei base station is specially designed for 3G operators to quickly expand their data network capacity by co-locating with their existing 3G cell sites,” Chi-hung Lin, president and  CEO of Altai Technologies, said. “Therefore most of the site acquisition costs, wired backhaul costs and radio planning works can be saved.”

Altai's patented data flow control algorithm allows large numbers of concurrent video streams and VoIP applications without eating up all the bandwidth for data. One unit of A8-Ei can support over 250 concurrent users. In urban environments, the Altai A8-Ei can provide 2,600 feet, or 800 meters, of non-line-of-sight signal coverage where iPhones and smartphones can direct connect to the base station with fast uplink and downlink WiFi (News - Alert) performance.

For rural areas, the range can increase to 2.5 miles, or 4 km, when used in conjunction with Altai's C1 CPE.

Altai's new Wi-Fi Solution assists the 3G operators to support their high data consumption devices such as the iPhone (News - Alert) without overloading their existing 3G data networks.

It is expected to increase the operators' high speed data network ROI and sustain the increasing data demand of their customers for high capacity data access in the near future.

In October, Altai Technologies launched the Altai C1 WiFi CPE. The Altai C1 can be operated in CPE or access point mode. It is designed to be used in Altai Super Wi-Fi systems to extend outdoor coverage to indoor broadband connectivity.

An addition to Altai’s Super Wi-Fi Systems, the Altai C1 enables network operators to take advantage of the cost savings provided by the Altai Super Wi-Fi System’s 10X greater coverage area.
