Oslo, Norway-based Opera Software said that Opera Mini, a popular mobile browser, is now available for download on eight feature-phone models already out in the market on the T-Mobile USA network.
Opera Mini’s interface will now enable T-Mobile (News - Alert) USA customers to browse the Web at “lightning speeds.” This will make the experience the closest possible to desktop browsing, according to company officials.
Company officials said that Opera Mini features compression technology that shrinks Web pages by up to 90 percent before loading it on the user’s mobile phone for fast surfing even for phones on 2.5G or EDGE networks.
Noting that consumer mobile web use is skyrocketing in the United States, Roy Satterthwaite, senior vice president for sales and marketing for Americas at Opera, said that Opera Mini satisfies this consumer demand by delivering the fastest browsing experience possible along with a superior user interface, enabling a smartphone-like user experience on T-Mobile USA feature phones.
The phones that will be enabled with the new feature are T-Mobile’s Nokia 2330, Nokia 2720, Nokia 3711, Nokia 5130, Sony Ericsson Equinox, Samsung (News - Alert) T239, Samsung T659 and Nokia E73 Mode.
Company officials said that users these phones can download Opera Mini by visiting m.opera.com on the already-existing browser on their phone.
Recently, Opera Software (News - Alert) announced the availability of Opera Mini 5.1 Beta browser for Nokia (News - Alert) smartphones.
