FTC Signs Contract to Receive T-Mobile WiFi Calling

A multi-year mobility contract with Federal Trade Commission (FTC (News - Alert)) was awarded to T-Mobile, USA, which will cater to the agency’s wireless service needs. Under the contract terms, full-range of T-Mobile products and services will be made accessible to FTC and its employees including company’s global WiFi (News - Alert) calling capabilities and broad selection of government-approved devices driven over super-fast HSPA+ mobile broadband network, delivering 4G speeds across most major metropolitan markets in the country. FTC awarded this agreement to T-Mobile based under the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA (News - Alert)) schedule established May 2002.
T-Mobile is the first major U.S. carrier to offer WiFi calling capability, allowing enterprises to leverage this technology to enhance domestic and international coverage, reduce domestic and international minute usage, increase enterprise mobility cost savings, and also boost productivity benefits from open WiFi access points worldwide. Currently, around 40 million WiFi calls per month are hosted by the company.
In a press release, David Pepe, divisional director of government solutions at T-Mobile (News - Alert) USA, said, “The speed at which business is being conducted in today’s global marketplace requires government agencies to be able to react to events in real-time, no matter where their employees may be. As such, we are confident that the strength of the T-Mobile brand’s global network, industry-leading mobile solutions and customized account support model will provide the perfect fit for the FTC’s current and future communication needs.”
T-Mobile’s acclaimed HSPA+ network currently serves around 65 metropolitan areas that include the agency’s location, Washington, D.C., as well as field locations across the country. As of today, the company delivers HSPA+ speeds to 100 major metropolitan areas serving approximately 200 million people in the U.S.
The mobile communication segments of the Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert) group currently serves around 130 million mobile customers whereas T-Mobile USA serves around 33.6 million via a common technology platform based on world’s widely used digital wireless standards, GSM and UMTS. T-Mobile USA’s suite of innovative wireless products and services empowers people to experience improved connectivity with family and friends.
