Visual Studio 2010 to Include Dotfuscator Community Edition

By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Microsoft Corporation and PreEmptive Solutions have informed that Microsoft (News - Alert) Visual Studio 2010 will come equipped with an improved version of Dotfuscator Community Edition (CE). The announcement was made at Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference 2008.

As part of every version of Visual Studio since 2003, Dotfuscator CE has ensured that reverse engineering of .NET (News - Alert) applications does not take place. The Dotfuscator product family is manufactured by PreEmptive Solutions.
The Visual Studio 2010 version has been rebranded as Dotfuscator Software Services Community Edition. It will encompass several new features such as tamper detection and defense, feature level application monitoring and automatic time limits on .NET application use.
Visual Studio 2010 will allow developers to track feature usage for ensuring better adoption and quality. In addition, ISVs will be able to increase win rates by integrating evaluation software usage into Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Plus, the solution will allow enterprises to integrate application runtime data into Microsoft Business Intelligence Solutions and thereby enhance business agility.
"Instrumentation is an important component of good software development practices as part of an overall application lifecycle management (ALM) approach. Microsoft knows that extending the ability to modify an application's behavior to the time after compile is a valuable part of good ALM practices," explains Norman Guadagno, the director of product management for Visual Studio Team System at Microsoft Corp. ".NET developers can now protect, manage and increase the value of their application development investments easily and without having to write additional code."
Dotfuscator Software Services CE can also stream alerts and runtime data to one or more cloud-based services.
"Dotfuscator's ability to integrate application behavior with one or more cloud services not only improves application quality and value, it actually creates new business opportunities for software service providers and developers alike," commented Gabriel Torok, president of PreEmptive Solutions.
In addition to Dotfuscator, PreEmptive Solutions also offers the DashO instrumentation and obfuscation product family and the Runtime Intelligence application analytics service. The company boasts more than 3,000 corporate clients and 40,000 registered installations.
Dotfuscator Software Services Community Edition will be offered with all versions of Visual Studio 2010 (other than Visual Studio Express) at no additional charge.
According to a TMCnet report, Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 allows developers to use the skills they already have to build compelling applications that take advantage of the latest platforms.
