Coverity Intros Software Readiness Manager for Java

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

San Francisco, California-based Coverity (News - Alert) announced the availability of its new Software Readiness Manager for Java solution.

This latest offering from Coverity allows development managers, release managers and executives to “objectively” assess the release readiness of their critical code. According to the company, this is done by combining essential data from multiple sources including Prevent, Coverity’s static analysis product.

With Software Readiness Manager, development teams will be able to deliver “high-integrity code” that meets standards to align product development with business goals.

Officials said that Coverity Software Readiness Manager analyzes data from multiple sources and tools, enabling managers to determine the risk of post-release failure. In addition it also helps to identify, prioritize and direct the repair of code branches.

Moreover, it also provides detailed intelligence about readiness factors such as code complexity, violation of best practices, architectural integrity, interdependencies and test coverage.

Software Readiness Manager, officials said, also provides intuitive, high-level dashboards as well as deep, drill-down capabilities. Development managers can use the capabilities to “objectively” assess the quality and maintainability of their software prior to release.

Suitable for both agile and waterfall development environments, the product also provides visibility into code of unknown quality that may be outsourced, open sourced, acquired or otherwise reused.

The key features of Coverity Software Readiness Manager include automatic identification of failure-prone code across large and complex software systems; transition of large amounts of data from multiple tools into actionable recommendations for improving code.

Additional capabilities include correlation of test coverage data with high-risk code to determine if failure-prone areas are being sufficiently tested; elimination of issues due to poor coding practices earlier in the software development lifecycle.

Ben Chelf, CTO at Coverity, said in a statement that Software Readiness Manager provides development managers working in fast-paced development environments with actionable data they need to help their teams deliver software that is fully prepared to perform in the field before it is released.

Earlier this year, Coverity introduced Coverity Prevent for C#. The product utilizes an analysis engine developed by Coverity’s research and development lab designed for detecting defects in applications built on Microsoft’s .NET (News - Alert) framework.
