MediaG3 to Bring Internet, IPTV to Rural China

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

MediaG3 announced today that it’s entered an agreement with Academy of Broadcasting Science (News - Alert), a division of State Administration for Radio Film and Television, for a pilot project.

Under the agreement, mg3 wireless broadband applications will be implemented to service the interior and rural regions of China, according to the companies.

According to company sources, there are about 900 million Chinese in the interior and rural areas, who are underserved or don’t have access to Internet or digital TV programs. The company says its pilot project will successfully demonstrate MediaG3’s ability to commercialize a “Rural Coverage” nationwide.

Gordon Guo, general manager of MediaG3 China Market, said that this pilot project will apply MediaG3’s technology in the real China market and is the first step for MediaG3 to play a significant role in supporting commercialization of interactive IPTV (News - Alert) and Internet services in the rural areas of China using mg3 wireless equipment and technologies.

Led directly by the China State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Academy of Broadcast Science is currently undertaking over ten national research projects, including HDTV, DAB, broadband cable integrated information service network, DVB conditional receiving system, Direct Broadcast Satellite and mobile multimedia standards, as well as many other ministerial research projects, company officials say.

Officials from MediaG3, Inc. say the company develops and markets broadband wireless technology products and online applications that empower interactive content delivery to today’s fixed and mobile consumers. The company made news recently for entering into a partnership agreement with Beijing Digital Media Corporation to provide broadband wireless applications and services for interactive digital TV and Internet access.
