Knowledge Universe Elevating Quality Child Care Through NAEYC Accreditation
PORTLAND, Ore. --(Business Wire)--
As part of a national effort to strengthen early childhood education,
Knowledge Universe announced today an effort to work with the National
Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to achieve 100
"As the leading provider of early childhood education in the nation, we
are proud of our teachers and center directors who are dedicated to
making a difference in the lives of children," said Dr. Elanna Yalow,
CEO of Knowledge Universe Early Learning Programs. "Accreditation is an
important reflection of the outstanding quality of our programs, and we
appreciate working with NAEYC as our centers achieve this recognition."
With more nationally accredited centers than any other provider,
Knowledge Universe's proprietary early childhood curriculum program,
Early Foundations®, promotes children's development across
six learning domains: Cognitive Development; Creative Expression;
Executive Function; Language and Literacy Development; Physical
Development and Wellness; and Social and Emotional Development. Because
skills in the Executive Function domain (e.g., self-regulation and
persistence) are closely linked to success in school and beyond, these
skills are emphasized in developmentally appropriate activities across
all age groups.
Research shows that children who attend high-quality early childhood
programs demonstrate improved school readiness kills, including
literacy and numeracy, as well as the development of social and
interpersonal skills. The long term benefits of high quality early
childhood education are also well-documented, including higher rates of
high school completion and employment. Selecting an accredited program
gives families confidence that their child's center meets comprehensive
standards of excellence in program quality and environment.
NAEYC's nationally recognized accreditation process considers
advancement of children's learning and development through
relationships, curriculum, teaching, and health, and the qualifications,
knowledge, and professional commitment of a program's teaching staff,
among other standards.
"Knowledge Universe's strong commitment to NAEYC accreditation sends a
powerful message about how essential quality is to young children and
families," said Rhian Evans Allvin, Executive Director of NAEYC.
"Studies prove that the brain connections made in the first few years of
life set a child's path for success in school and beyond. That's why
high quality educators and early learning experiences are so critical."
