Abu Dhabi: iPhone users to get food safety app [Gulf News (United Arab Emirates)]
(Gulf News (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Abu Dhabi: iPhone users in the emirate will soon be able to file food safety complaints via a new app.
Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (Adfca) will introduce its smartphone app for iPhones this month, a senior official told Gulf News on Sunday.
The authority's app for Android-based smartphones introduced in October last year, has so far received a good response, Mohammad Jalal Al Raisi, Director of Communication and Community Service at Adfca, said.
"We have been receiving a large number of complaints, suggestions and other feedback through the mobile application [for Android phones]," he said.
The iPhone application will be available on the App Store and can be easily downloaded within a few seconds.
Al Raisi said smartphone apps help the authority receive pictures from consumers on the spot and the app identifies the location.
The authority introduced the app to make it easier for residents to file food safety complaints or give feedback, the official said. It just takes just a few taps on their smartphone, he said.
"Residents have a major role in maintaining food safety in the market. They are our [authority's] eye in the market because our inspectors cannot be present everywhere always," he said.
The authority has also seen a good response from its Facebook and Twitter accounts. But people using these channels have been advised to call up the contact centre to register a formal complaint as specific details are needed.
However, complaints reported though the mobile application will be registered formally.
Users can get also tips related to food, agriculture and livestock via the application.
Apart from its Food Safety Guard, the app has other modules such as map services,
which helps users find Adfca facilities such as vets' clinics, fodder centres and customer service centres.
