New electronics recycling rules in effect in York County
YORK, Pa., Jan 24, 2013 (York Daily Record - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Pennsylvania's new Covered Device Recycling Act goes into effect today, and that means changes for York County residents to how and when they can dispose of unwanted electronics.
Specifically, the law prohibits curbside collection of electronic devices, such as televisions and computers, and it does not allow them in solid-waste disposal facilities.
Those devices must be taken to one of 11 recycling yards across the county, at designated times.
The specifics of what devices are affected -- and where York County residents must recycle them -- are as follows.
What to recycle:
The following electronic devices can be recycled at any of 11 collection sites across York County:
Answering machines, cellphones, computers and peripherals, computer mice, copier/fax equipment, desktop computers, disc players, duplicators, electric typewriters, gaming products, hard drives, keyboards, laptops, mainframes, microwave ovens, modems, monitors, power cords, printed circuit boards, printers, radios, remote controls, stereo equipment, tape players, telephone equipment, televisions, testing equipment, transparency equipment, uninterruptible power supplies and VCRs.
