DSP Group's CAT-iq 2.0 Platform Powers Ooma's Telo Gateway, HD2 Smart Handset and Linx Adapter
LAS VEGAS, Jan 03, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE via COMTEX) --
DSP Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications, announced today that Ooma, a leading provider of HD-quality free home phone service, chose DSP Group's XceedR(TM) CAT-iq 2.0 platform for integration into its recently-launched Telo(TM) voice gateway, its HD2 Handset and the Linx adapter.
The DSP Group's XceedR CAT-iq 2.0/DECT6.0 platform enables Ooma to deliver a rich featureset to its home phone customers, providing the market's most complete and affordable home phone experience.
With XceedR CAT-iq 2.0, the new Ooma HD2 handsets offer smartphone features like color display, picture caller ID, cutting-edge HD voice clarity for richer, more natural-sounding conversations, an intercom to talk between handsets, call transfer, 3-way conferencing, handset software upgradability, polyphonic ring tones and more.
The Ooma Linx adapter, also based on XceedR CAT-iq 2.0, wirelessly connects corded terminals such as phones, fax machines or other telephony devices around the home to the Ooma Telo gateway using the latest DECT 6.0 technology.
Based on DSP Group's cutting-edge XceedR single-chip solution, the XceedR CAT-iq 2.0 is a small form-factor DECT module that is easily and cost-effectively integrated into residential gateways and handsets, and is provided with CAT-iq 2.0 firmware and reference software features. This minimizes R&D costs and lowers time to market, while guaranteeing standards compliance.
"Ooma's Telo voice gateway, HD2 Handset, and Linx adapter all benefit from the close cooperation between DSP Group and Ooma," said Toby Farrand, VP of Engineering Operations at Ooma. "But the real winners are our customers, who will enjoy the fusion of the smartphone and home phone experience, and have wireless access to services like HD voice. These new technologies are prime examples of our dedication to delivering the most advanced, complete and still affordable home phone solution for consumers," he concluded.
"A long time partner of DSP Group, Ooma has taken our reference design for DECT/CAT-iq voice gateway module and handset to the highest level of performance in their new products," said Ran Klier, VP Sales and Marketing Europe and Americas at DSP Group. "We are delighted to have our solutions repeatedly selected by telecommunication industry's leaders and innovators like Ooma, who leverage our hardware and software references - which can now be seamlessly upgraded to support the emerging DECT ULE standard, enabling wireless home automation, monitoring and control via one gateway," he concluded.
