Aztelekom: Privatisation of Azerbaijani communication enterprises -- inevitable process
Dec 06, 2012 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The privatisation of the Aztelekom production association of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan is an inevitable process, Aztelekom Director General Magomed Mammadov said on Thursday.
Mammadov said it is a requirement of the market economy. The only question is, when the privatisation should be carried out.
"Today, incomes received by Aztelekom in large cities are invested in the development of the telecommunications infrastructure in remote villages. It is unlikely that a private company which took over Aztelekom, will invest in the development of remote areas. Nonetheless, privatisation is the demand of time and an inevitable process," Mammadov said.
The ministry has prepared and submitted the necessary documents on a change of ownership of state communication enterprises -- production associations Aztelekom and Baku Telephone Communication to the government, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend earlier.
The process of privatisation of enterprises that will create a healthy atmosphere in the telecommunications market of Azerbaijan will be launched after the completion of the restructuring.
Initially, unification of state operators with a fixed line network in a single telecommunications company -- a joint stock company, keeping it in the public domain is expected. At a later stage the enterprises will be put up for privatisation, promoting the emergence of private companies and a body regulating their activities on the market.
